A group of friends from Oxford have a tradition of welcoming in the New Year together and this time their reunion takes place in a secluded, posh Scottish estate. Nine people, a small baby, the estate's manager and gamekeeper are isolated when a monumental snowstorm hits the area. By the time the storm ends, one person will be dead and one of the party will have become a murderer. The bleak yet beautiful environment where the story took place became a character as well as the group of seemingly close friends due to the incredible descriptive writing. My feet felt like they were frozen as if I was walking in the deep snow around the lodge! This addictive mystery builds throughout the book giving pieces to the puzzle of who was killed with plenty of twists, turns and surprises leading to the actual murder. I really enjoyed this book and look forward to checking out Lucy Foley's other novels.

“Lucy Foley’s The Hunting Party is a slick, streamlined murder mystery set on a remote Scottish luxury estate. A group of old friends get together for their yearly New Year’s trip, but after over a decade of closeness, some of them may be near the breaking point. Foley uses the multiple-narrator approach to distort the reader’s perspective and challenge their assumptions, but it doesn’t feel excessive. With multiple puzzles that come together to create the bigger picture and a short timeline that adds to the claustrophobic urgency, this novel is a devilishly thrilling winter read.”

ALL OF THEM ARE FRIENDS. ONE OF THEM IS A KILLER.

“A ripping, riveting murder mystery — wily as Agatha Christie, charged with real menace, real depth. Perfect for fans of Ruth Ware.” – A.J. Finn, #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Woman in the Window

During the languid days of the Christmas break, a group of thirtysomething friends from Oxford meet to welcome in the New Year together, a tradition they began as students ten years ago. For this vacation, they’ve chosen an idyllic and isolated estate in the Scottish Highlands—the perfect place to get away and unwind by themselves.

The trip began innocently enough: admiring the stunning if foreboding scenery, champagne in front of a crackling fire, and reminiscences about the past. But after a decade, the weight of secret resentments has grown too heavy for the group’s tenuous nostalgia to bear. Amid the boisterous revelry of New Year’s Eve, the cord holding them together snaps.

Now, on New Year’s Day, one of them is dead . . . and another of them did it.
